modest menu

1st Ramadhan went well...until i was down with slight fever & flu after iftar. i popped in pills that consist painkiller, flu tablet and antibiotics right after iftar & before sleep...terus pengsan right until 4am, bangun sahur. alhamdulillah fever dah kebah and i felt a lot better, prepared our sahur.

1st Ramadhan's iftar we had it humbly; chicken+prawn+veggies+ntah apa2 ntah lagi i campak2 masuk..hehee tomyam soup, omelette and....ikan masin tabur cili padi sayang i tak jumpa limau kasturi nak perah & potong halus2; eversince i arrived here, tak nampak lagi limau kasturi. tekak puasa semalam nak yang pedas2 jer.. excuse yerr..hihiii. Owh, despite that very modest menu..we had 1 guest for iftar yesterday; husband's close pal merangkap colleague. Yer laa...kan, orang bujang jauh di perantauan...kesian pulak. dia pun our close friend, dah tak rasa macam orang luar dah...so husband pun ajak laa sekali.

puasa di perantauan....kat sini mana ada bazaar ramadhan macam kita kat msia. Kalau kat msia, asal ramadhan je dah jadi mcm food fest..mewah makanan sana sini.. at one certain point, positifnya bazaar ramadhan ni u can see harmony where you can find all races in msia under one bazaar roof. u can even meet your setahun-tak-jumpa or your long lost friend / relatives at these bazaar, only in Ramadhan. and of course, variety of foods available. negatifnya, yang mintak dijauhkan ialah pembaziran dan penipuan (please adapt the concept daily, bukan dlm bulan puasa ni saje yerr...)
they don't have that culture (the bazaar thingy..) here, the s*u*d*a*n*e*s*e. except for tarawih prayer, there's no significant difference that marks it's holy Ramadhan here (of course nobody eats daytime, and some food stores / restaurants are only open late evening before maghrib). the ramadhan tv-ads are all over the channels, does that count? hehee. of course the new & modern cafes & restaurant start to adapt the ramadhan buffet concept. with the wide social gap where the riches live sooo lavishly while the poor have hardest time making ends meet, dengan cost of living yang tinggi kurang sesuai dengan kualitinya; insaf.. kita di msia dikira 'mewah' dan 'senang' berbanding kehidupan rakyat negara ni.

anywayyyyyy....

tadi petang saya pun gatal laa pegi tanya husband, in case of any preference of meal he wants for iftar..(kesian dia, penat kerja isteri terchenta goyang kaki kat rumah tahun lepas pun dia berpuasa + beraya (horrorr!!!) kat sini.. 2 kali ramadhan tak merasa air tangan mak dia.. so i totally understand how he feels walaupun dia tak tunjuk..).. his answer was 'ayam salai'. i was like...whatinthenameofheaven is ayam salai?? apalagi....google laa kan.. i malas nak buang masa google banyak2, i clicked to the 1st site on the search result. Rupa-rupa nyaaa ayam salai ni (according to that recipe's blog) basically ayam marinate dengan segala macam rempah then wrapped into aluminium foil then bakar masuk oven. ye ke? i main ikut jerr.... segala rempah yang i rasa patut dari halia sampai la ke jintan putih+manis dengan biji2 blackpepper i blend then marinate ayam for about half an hour. wrap elok2 dlm aluminium foil, masuk oven. (1st time guna oven tu, nasib baik laaa still intact in one piece lepas saya gunakan, unlike the microwave yang dah rosak setelah hanya 3 kali i guna terus jahanam!! harap2 tuan rumah i tak baca blog ni! fine, bukan salah i..oven tu yang dah errr...veteran!!)

add that with sayur campur goreng and...uhukk uhukk..reheated tomyam soup..ahemm diam2 sudah..:D and a jug of sunquick's orange drinks... that's our modest iftar meal for today.
